Hiku Hikes

Peripatetic writing workshops

Silke has recently moved to Sunrise-on-Sea in the unparalleled beauty of the Eastern Cape, and will be offering 'Hiku Hikes' once again in this region.

Write your heart into place, capturing your experience on a guided, silent walk - by means of 'verbal snapshots'. NO WRITERLY EXPERIENCE is necessary for this activity, merely a wish to preserve your living self in a unique moment in space and time, by writing words down in response to your environment.
The hike is ideal for travellers keeping a journal of their experiences.

The 'Hiku Hikes' take place in various terrains, forest and beach, in the East Coast Resorts.  En route, the poet stops to read a couple of poems about the specific area, with basic technical commentary. While walking, you compose your own poem or reflective piece of writing, based on your sense experience of the surroundings. Editorial tips and feedback are given at the end of the walk.

Bring pen and paper (phones and ipads will work in the shadier parts) hats, warm gear if there is a breeze, water bottle, sunblock and small cushions or towels to sit on. Participants need to be sufficiently able-bodied to walk, slowly, up- and downhill.

Cost: R500p/p.
A minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 people can be accommodated.

Duration: 2 - 3 hours.

Bookings: The Hiku Hike must be pre-booked and paid for prior to the event. Contact Silke on  +27 (0)66 2546846.

 Workshop Dates

The Hiku Hikes are given on demand only, for a minimum of two and a maximum of six participants at a time. Dates and times are arranged to suit participants.
